A World of Adventure...

As adults what do we live for? What is our purpose? Our goal? People seem to spend their lives searching for the answers but never seem to find what they are truly looking for. It seems to lie outside themselves, untouchable and out of reach while the world crashes on around them, oblivious and blind. As adults we are caught in a maelstrom of pressures and influences that dominate our lives and entangle us in a daily grind that is demarcated by bank balance, work-shift and the weekend. What would our lives be like if we did indeed discover our purpose? What if we were able to peel back the veneer, see beyond the illusion of living, and with wide-eyed wonder see our lives in a new way that gave rhythm and meaning to our day-to-day? What might happen if we woke up to the reality that we have a gift no matter how
small it may be to make a difference and affect change with energy and passion? How we might live! How we might teach! How we might see the child's world in a whole new light!
What might your gift be if you allowed yourself to open and reach inside yourself? What gift and purpose-driven energy might you be able to bring to the children in your setting? For you have a gift: the gift of play and with it the ability to enter the child's world. How wonderful this can be! As adults we crave adventure - the two week holiday in the sun, the theme park, Las Vegas, Friday night in town, spending power, gadgets, the dream of 'things' and 'experience'. And yet real adventure lies at your very door - the world of children and their play. When we begin to see play through new eyes, as a powerful learning tool that can enable children to glow and grow, then we hand ourselves a passport that will lead us on a journey to who knows where. It is the sense of the unknown that truly makes play an adventure. Maybe it's time to put away the planning sheets, ease off the setting up of continuous provision and throw yourself into the dreaming landscape of children where each and every day is a whole new adventure in itself...
